Overview

Merit Construction delivered a new headquarters facility for Axle Logistics, a fast growing logistics company based in Knoxville. The six story, 84,325 square foot building was designed to support approximately 900 workstations and provide a high end, amenity rich environment that helps attract and retain talent. Completed in June 2025, the project combines a cost effective structural system with modern workplace design and extensive wellness and recreation features for employees.

Project Scope and Features

‍Structural approach

The building was constructed using a cast in place concrete structural system, selected as a more economical choice than structural steel at the time. This approach provided long term durability, flexibility for large open office areas, and the ability to integrate the building’s unique amenities efficiently.

Workplace and capacity

• Approximately 900 workstations across six floors
• Open office layouts designed for collaboration and visibility
• Support spaces for meetings, focus work, and team activities

Employee wellness and fitness

A key feature of the project is the focus on employee health and wellness, anchored by a lower level gym area:

• Basement half court gym for recreation and fitness
• Locker rooms for male and female employees
• Saunas and cold plunge pools to support recovery and wellness

Amenities and experience

The headquarters integrates a wide range of amenities that enhance daily life in the building and reinforce Axle’s culture:

• Pool tables and informal recreation areas
• Water features and aquariums that create visual interest and a calming atmosphere
• Terraces with comfortable seating and scenic views of the surrounding area
• A putting green for casual play and outdoor breaks
• A swing suite for interactive entertainment and team events

These features are distributed throughout the building to encourage movement, social connection, and a sense of energy in the workplace.
