Merit Construction, Inc. is an award-winning Knoxville based General Construction firm with more than 40 years of experience. We currently have a full-time opening for a Commercial Carpenter.
The position requirements include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: A Carpenter with skills and knowledge in commercial construction practices.
Responsibilities
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Installation of door frames, doors, and door hardware.
- Installation of miscellaneous specialty items.
- Installation of blocking and other wood framing commonly used in commercial construction.
- Form and place concrete footings, piers, walls, columns, slabs, and sidewalks.
- Read blueprints, use appropriate math skills, and perform layout.
- Crane signals and rigging.
- Effectively communicate and understand both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to organize, sequence, and perform assigned tasks within a schedule.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all other employees.
- Produce high quality work.
- Follow all safety requirements established by the company.
- Properly trained and certified to operate skid steer loaders, mini-excavators, telescoping forklifts, and other medium sized equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for long periods of time on all ground conditions
- Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Walk for long periods of time
- Bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl
- Climb ladders and stairs repetitively
- Lift, push, pull, or carry less than 50 lbs.
- Traverse on uneven ground
- Able to work overhead
- Work in inclement weather conditions and/or air dust and debris
Certificates and Training
- OSHA 10-hour certification (kept current)
- All safety level competency for regulation 1926
- Crisis Communication Training (Merit Training)
Essential Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of related experience
- Trade school or apprenticeship program is a plus
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must provide own hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, tool belt, tape measure, chalk box, levels, squares, prybar, pliers, channel lock pliers, utility knife)
