Hardin Valley Elementary School (Knoxville, TN)
Hardin Valley Elementary School, a $12.3 million project, is the third-largest elementary school in Tennessee. Hardin Valley was completed on time for school to open as scheduled. Merit Construction was hired by the Knox County Public Building Authority to serve as construction manager for the 136,000 square foot elementary school. Merit worked closely with the architect and owner and delivered the school under its $12.3 million budget. As the project neared completion, there were enough realized savings to add a bell tower and bus canopies. These items were added within the last 60 days of the project while keeping the schedule on track, even though it meant working six and seven-day work weeks. Originally scheduled for 15 months, the project was finished in 13 months allowing the school to open on time – August 14, 2000.
"I would like to take the opportunity thank Merit Construction Inc. for the outstanding performance and display of professionalism on Hardin Valley Elementary School. As you are aware, The Constrction Management team took a nearly impossible task and performed a "miracle". As Construction Managers, Merit took the "bull by the horns" and delivered a gorgeous facility three months ahead of schedule. Building a 136,000 square feet facility like this, "on-time" and "under budget" certainly deserves recognition."
